Food co-op
La DAL Collective recognizes that food insecurity is above all a problem of social injustice. Food is a right, and not all residents of Saint-Henri have adequate access to the food they need.
To respond to this need, La DAL Collective is opening a self-managed food co-op so that everyone can access a variety of healthy food options close to their home. Created by and for the residents of our neighbourhood, all profits from the co-op will be reinvested in the community through a business model that reclaims our access to food through concrete actions, all the while offering competitive prices to consumers and paying producers fairly.
Our self-managed food co-op will operate completely because of the involvement of members of the Collective, and the voluntary contribution of their time and efforts.
There are various ways that you can get involved:
- The food co-op: All members contribute 3 volunteer hours per month.
- Committees: People who are interested in the work of specific working groups can participate to help advance various projects of La DAL Collective. Currently, there are three committees:
- Members’ Committee
- Communication and Mobilization Committee
- Facilities Committee
You don’t need to have specialized knowledge or expertise in an area to join a committee, just a desire to contribute and work together. Please join us!
- General assemblies: La DAL Collective is an self-managed co-operative organization, which means that all decisions are made collectively with its members. All members in good standing with the Collective can vote in general assemblies, can run for elections, and can voice their opinions to influence decisions made with regard to the food co-op.
